Where should you place a desk lamp with dual monitors?

With two monitors, the lamp has fewer easy places to go. The best position lights your work surface from the side or above without reflecting in either display or blocking the screens.

Start with the task, not symmetry

Decide what the lamp needs to illuminate: notebook, keyboard, paperwork, or the room around the monitors. A lamp does not have to sit centered just because the monitors are centered.

Side placement works when the beam is controlled

A lamp placed to the side can illuminate writing and keyboard areas without sitting in front of a screen. Angle the head so the brightest part of the beam falls on the desk, not directly into a monitor.

Watch both screens for reflections

A position that looks fine on one display can reflect badly in the second because the panels are angled differently. Check dark content on both screens while moving the lamp; reflections are easier to see that way.

Clamp and arm lamps can free the surface

If the desk is crowded, a clamp lamp can move the base off the desktop. Check the desk edge and clamp clearance just as you would with a monitor arm.
