Office-chair adjustment order: set up the chair in five minutes

A good chair can feel wrong when the adjustment sequence starts in the wrong place. Set height and seat depth first, then fine-tune support.

1. Set seat height

Place the feet securely on the floor or a footrest and aim for comfortable knee and hip angles without pressure behind the thighs.

2. Set seat depth

Leave a small gap behind the knees while keeping enough thigh support.

3. Set back and lumbar

Move the lumbar support until it supports rather than pushes. More pressure is not automatically better.

4. Set armrests

Bring the armrests to the forearms instead of lifting the shoulders to meet them.

5. Set recline and tension

Choose enough movement that you can change posture without feeling that the chair is throwing you backward.

Workroom Standard conclusion

Revisit the settings after a few workdays. Small changes in desk height, footwear, or keyboard position can change what feels right.
